“Sing me a song of a lass that is gone. Say, could that lass be I? Merry of soul, she sailed on a day. Over the sea to Skye…”
Have any of you watched Outlander lately? Although you can visit the Culloden battlefield or see the grave of Flora McDonald, there were no time-traveling stones that we came across during our visit. Luckily, time travel is not needed to experience all of the serene beauty that Scotland has to offer.
This was one of our first larger trips we did having children and it was such a beautiful place to experience traveling with your wee bairns. Everyone was so accommodating and nice, the cities offered so many options for children and the trip was even relaxing for us parents due to the vast open spaces and beautiful walks and hikes the kids can join you on.
I have outlined our itinerary in the 3 blogs to follow to hopefully give you some ideas or inspiration for an upcoming trip or bucket list vacation. We traveled 10 hours and stayed mostly in Airbnb’s and Vrbo’s for this vacation. I have accommodations, eateries, and activity recommendations for each part of Scotland we stayed in.
We flew from LAX to London. From London, we took the virgin train up to Edinburgh. Ladies and gentlemen this train was part of the experience, they served food, we got to see the beautiful English countryside and the image of emerging from the tunnel and seeing Edinburgh castle loom above you felt like something out of Harry Potter.
The trip started off in Edinburgh for 3 days, we then traveled to the highlands for 3 more days where we stayed in Pitlochry. We finished Scotland off on the Isle of Skye where we spent 2 days (but I could spend a lifetime).
After this trip, we completed our overseas vacation in Ireland, so if you are interested in spending some time in the Emerald Isle, check out this blog.
