Both times we have been extremely lucky by booking early and getting a great deal on the Hotel Sacher.
This hotel is very fancy, and sometimes when I randomly look it up, I choke at seeing the prices. But if you’re in the mood to splurge or come across a great deal, I couldn’t recommend it enough. It is one of the hotels that almost makes the stay. For how nice it was, they were extremely accommodating to children. They greeted my kids by their names every morning, always left little treats in the room for them, and never made us feel bad for letting them explore the lobby.
The hotel is right on the river between the old and new town and in a perfect central location for those wanting to explore both.
I have found this hotel for a couple of hundred dollars on booking.com in advance, FYI!
These would be some other great options for visiting Salzburg based on location.
There was a lot of good food in Salzburg. Being that it is a smaller city, you do have a lot of options.
Brew houses are always great places to eat, as they are usually large, accommodate children and have a wide variety of food. Check out The Augustiner Brewery Beer Garden or the Sternbrau are good options.
If you are craving a classic American burger after your travels, head to Ludwig for some traditional and fancy burgers.
We ate breakfast at the hotel or from Cafe Classic in the Mozart Residence.
There are also lots of food choices at the farmer’s markets and around town, little shops you can pop in for a sandwich or dessert. Make sure to try to Wurst from the farmer’s markets; they were my husband’s favorite, and since it’s close to a hot dog, the kids may like it too!
